Causes, Prevention and Treatment Strategies for Oral and Dental diseases

An interplay among the three different elements causes dental caries. These are host (your teeth and saliva), plaque containing microorganisms, and substrate (your food). Caries require these three components for a sufficiently long time. You can control tooth decay and prevent caries by increasing the resistance of teeth. This can be done for example by including fluoride and casein phosphopeptide amorphous calcium phosphate in your toothpaste. The caries can be prevented by preventing the buildup of plaque by physical and chemical methods. Cleaning of teeth and tongue and use of certain ingredients are helpful in removing the bacteria. Use of tobacco should be avoided. Another way to prevent caries is by reducing the intake of refined carbohydrates, sugars, and sticky foods.
