Glaucoma is a group of disorders in which optic nerves are gradually damaged. This damage can lead to vision loss and even blindness. Glaucoma usually develops in older adults, however there is a risk of early-onset of Glaucoma primarily due to heredity. This may be because structural abnormalities that may give rise to glaucoma may be present at birth and becomes visible during the first one or two years. Mutations also have a role in the occurence of glaucoma. MYOC gene may be responsible for these mutations.
