The saddening assessment by Jane Halton, who chairs Bill Gates-backed Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations, diminishes hope that a vaccine could be available early next year. Ms Halton was previously Chairman on the executive board of the World Health Organization. She also served as president of the World Health Assembly in past.

The risk of severe illness due to the coronavirus is lower than SARS and MERS. Coronavirus infection recovery is good and depends upon the patient’s symptoms, i.e., how severe or mild the symptoms are. People with mild symptoms usually recover within 2 weeks. However, people with severe symptoms may take 3 to 6 weeks to recover.

On the basis of sequencing analysis on coronavirus genome, its origin most likely could follow one of the following possible scenarios. The first scenario could be when virus evolved to its current pathogenic state through natural selection in a non-human host (like bats).
