Most of the lung tumors are malignant that is cancerous. They can invade and destroy the healthy tissues around them and can spread throughout the body. The lung is a bad place for a cancer to begin because it contains a rich network of both blood vessels and lymphatic channels through which cancer cells can grow. When lung tissues break down, the intake of oxygen and removal of carbon dioxide is not proper which leads to a condition known as emphysema. Smoker lungs convert to cancer lungs very easily therefore consumption of tobacco should be restricted for healthy lungs.

Staging is a way of identifying where the cancer is located, if and where it has spread, and whether it is spreading to other parts of the body. Staging a cancer helps determine the survival chances and chances of recovery, and the types of treatment that are most suitable.
