Cataract Surgery Guidelines

The cataracts as discussed in this article are not congenital. Cataracts extraction accounts for a major workload of ophthalmologists. Though there are various ways of treatment, surgical removal of the cataracts is the only effective way to treat your eyes and restore the vision. The surgery and management of cataracts involves an interdisciplinary team requiring ophthalmologists, optometrists, nurses, and technicians. Cataract surgery should be performed by an eye surgeon although some of the process may be handled by a supervised and well trained non-medical team. The indications for the cataract surgery in one-eyed patients are the same as for two-eyed patients, but the surgeon should discuss the possibility of total blindness with the patient if severe complications occur.
