Dyslexia is a learning disorder that is characterized by a difficulty in reading due to problems identifying speech sounds and understanding how these speech sounds relate to letters and words. It is a reading disability and affects areas of the brain that is responsible for language processing.

The reading and writing disabilities in dyslexics are due to difficulty in the processing of information by the brain. Dyslexic people may be weak in reading and writing skills but at the same time they are strong in some areas such as logical reasoning, and visually creative fields, etc. Reading instructions for a child with dyslexia are developed to improve their reading and writing skills.

Dyslexia is typically diagnosed in childhood however it often continues into adulthood. Most of the children with dyslexia are not diagnosed till they reach adulthood, however some adults diagnosed with dyslexia have found a change in symptoms as they grow older.
